When a trumpet player blows into their instrument and their lips vibrate against the mouthpiece, this is where the sound begins. This sound is then made stronger, gains more colour and raises or lowers in pitch as the air is pushed through the rest of the trumpet. Choosing a different mouthpiece for your instrument has a big affect on both the sound and the playing feel. Some mouthpieces are perfect for jazz musicians while other are more suited for classical musicians, and there is also a difference between mouthpieces made for beginners and mouthpieces made for experienced musicians.
