Since acoustic guitars are normally made out of thin pieces of wood and can be a little fragile, it makes sense to keep them safely tucked away in a purpose-designed gig bag or case - especially if you're taking it on the road.
Gig Bags & Cases
The gig bags and cases included in this section are specially designed for steel-string acoustic guitars, or just acoustic guitars. If you're looking for a gig bag or case for a nylon-stringed classical/Spanish guitar, then see our full range of classical guitar cases and bags.
Acoustic Guitar Gig Bags
A really popular and relatively cheap option for keeping an acoustic guitar protected on the way to lessons, rehearsals and gigs is a gig bag. These bags are often fitted with a set of backpack straps, so you can carry your guitar and keep your hands free. Most gig bags will also feature accessory pockets and compartments for your tuner, capo, your plectrums and a spare pack of strings. The quality of a gig bad usually depends of the thickness (in millimetres) of the padding and the materials it's made from.
Acoustic Guitar Cases
Maybe you're going on tour or you're gigging a lot and you need even better protection, in which case, it's probably wise to go for a case. The thing you really need to check when picking out your case is that it's the right size for your guitar. If the case is too big, your guitar will have too much space to shift around and could get damaged in transit. The perfect case is one that holds the body in place so it doesn't shift and supports the neck so that the headstock is left free-floating and the machine heads can't knock against the sides of the case.
Different Body Shapes
When looking for a new gig bag or case you also need to check that it matches the body shape of your acoustic guitar. Any standard dreadnought acoustic guitar (the most common body shape) will usually fit inside most universal guitar bags and cases. But if your guitar has a different body shape like the smaller Triple O, Double O or parlor, or has a larger body like a jumbo, then you need to make sure you're getting a bag or case designed for that shape.
