General
Ohana Music is known for high-quality, affordable ukuleles like this SK-21 sopranino. Its massive mahogany wood body produces a bright, cheerful sound and both the fret and bridge are made of ovangkol, another great-sounding wood. The string nut and bridge saddle are made of real bone. This may be the smallest ukulele model, but its playability and quality are definitely equal to its counterparts. The SK-21 is equipped with Aquila strings and you can count on the Gotoh Friction machine heads to keep this uke in tune!
Ukulele: popular instrument
Even though the ukulele is associated with Hawaiian music, it became popular for other musical genres in the States during the period between WWI and WWII. In no time, it was known as the icon of the Jazz Age, and in the 1920s, professional and amateur musicians alike were having a go at this charming, accessible instrument. People made ukulele tabs of popular songs of the era and published sheet music for the uke. Although it suffered a dip in popularity when the guitar took over during the rock and roll period, this portable, relatively inexpensive instrument made a successful comeback in the nineties and has been gaining popularity ever since!
