General
The Ohana CK-20S is a high-quality concert ukulele from the plucked lute family of string instruments. With its solid mahogany top and body, this uke offers a bright, warm and open sound. Its fingerboard and bridge, meanwhile, were made of an equally sturdy wood type: ovangkol. This 19-fret Ohana CK-20S concert ukulele is bigger than a soprano ukulele, and features high-quality geared tuners to ensure it does not go out of tune. It even comes with Aquila strings. Both both beginners and advanced ukulele players will find plenty to like in this very study and highly affordable concert ukulele!
The Ukulele: an Internationally Popular Instrument
In 1879, the ukulele was brought to Hawaii by Portuguese immigrants. While most people associate the uke directly with Hawaiian music, the instrument became increasingly popular in various other parts of the world - especially the US - between the First and Second World Wars. The ukulele quickly became an icon of the jazz age, and in the 1920s, more and more professional and amateur musicians began discovering the instrument. People began sharing chords and tabs of songs that were popular at the time, which were eventually published as sheet music. Although the guitar eventually took over from the ukulele during the rock 'n' roll days, the portable and affordable uke gained popularity once again during the 90s. And this time, its popularity hasn't waned.
