General

Together with Rod Franks, Yamaha developed the MP TR MG S mouthpiece for trumpet. Its versatility (thanks to the cup diameter) is something Franks can truly be proud of. One of the most important characteristics of this mouthpiece is its efficiency; the design produces more sound with less breath from the trumpet player, compared to other mouthpieces. No concessions were made to the sound to achieve such efficiency though, and this mouthpiece produces a rich tone that flourishes in large orchestras.

The Signature series

As a maker of musical instruments, it's important to be informed by the tried-and-true experts of the craft; top musicians know like no one else which aspects of their instrument are the most important. Such a collaboration is of course advantageous for the musicians involved as well, as they get to work with Yamaha's R&D department to develop their ideal instrument. So it's safe to say that Yamaha's Signature series is comprised of high-quality mouthpieces named after collaborative musicians with specific characteristics that are of huge importance during their performances.

Rod Franks

From the young age of 6, Rod Franks was already playing in a local band, and in his teens he had already achieved the role of first chair cornet player in the famous Black Dyke Mills band. Later, he served as the first chair trumpet player in the Bergen Philharmonic orchestra for 7 years - during which time he also conducted. Franks is currently the first chair in the trumpet section of the famous London Symphony Orchestra, which is known for being featured in many film soundtracks.
