General

Celebrate 40 years of synthesizer success with Yamaha's special white anniversary edition of the Motif XF8! What do you get? Well, for starters, there's the beautiful, sleek white finish, as opposed to the classic black finish of the XF8 workstation. Open up the anniversary box, and you'll find 1,024 MB of extra flash memory, along with a message card, a 40th anniversary sticker, a coupon, and a USB stick with 4 GB of extra sounds. The cherry on top is an extra 1 GB of memory!

Motif XF8 WH: incredibly complete

The Motif XF8 is a comprehensive workstation that makes it easy to produce natural piano compositions and dazzling synthesizer parts alike. Because we're talking about a synthesizer, all of the sounds can be edited with an accessible set of controls. Whether you're using it for live performances or whether it's a permanent fixture in your studio, the magnificent sound and smooth feel of the XF8 will make you feel right at home no matter where you are. The keyboard is as wide as a piano, and consists of 88 keys, which is the only difference between the XF8 and the 76-key XF7. Both models offer ample room for musical expression, thanks to features such as after touch and initial touch.

Studio-grade effects and remote control

One of the most impressive parts of the XF8 is the ability it gives you to use a variety of studio-grade effects on the diverse assortment of sounds. These Virtual Circuitry Modeling effects are comparable to high-grade studio plugins, and can be expanded and edited to suit even the most versatile musician's needs. You'll also find a remote control function, which is particularly practical in the studio. This feature means that the Motif works in perfect unity with DAWs such as Cubase, ProTools and Logic. Use the faders and rotary knobs on the workstation to quickly and easily control functions in your DAW! All in all, this is a unique, complete, professional instrument that your studio really can't do without!

NAMM 2016: Casio MZ-X: A New MZ-2000?

Monday 11 January 2016

The image below recently turned up on the internet. Based on the text and the accompanying specifications, we assume that Casio is trying to lure us to their NAMM booth so they can present their latest keyboard/synthesizer: the MZ-X. This will likely remind keyboard enthusiasts of the MZ-2000, an old Casio model that, considering the words 'Reinvented, Reimagined, Reborn' is apparently about to be brought back to life. Rumour has it that two models will be released, the MZ-500 and the MZ-1000, but take that with a grain of salt; it's very possible that MZ-X is indeed the final name for this workstation.

Tuesday 12 January 2016

Late last year, Electro Harmonix introduced the Crash Pad Analog Drum Synth, and at NAMM 2016 they'll be unleashing the Super Space Drum. Where the Crash Pad creates electronic cymbal sounds, the Space Drum generates a typically '80s drum sound - electronic yet warm and full of character. It can be used as either a standalone unit, or in combination with a looper or clock generator, for instance.
