Yamaha has been producing synthesizers for music lovers for 40 years now! These days, you'd be hard pressed to find a media production that doesn't make use of a Yamaha synthesizer, and to celebrate that achievement, Yamaha is offering their Motif XF7 with a special 40th anniversary box. It includes 1,024 MB of flash memory, a coupon, a 40th anniversary sticker, a message card and a USB stick with 4 GB of extra sounds. To top it off, you also get an extra 1,024 MB of extra flash memory for a total of 2 extra gigabytes! In short, this is a particularly complete set that offers everything you need to make music to your heart's content.

Yamaha Motif XF7: professional sounds

Yamaha workstations are known for their incredible versatility and phenomenal sounds; from acoustic pianos to complete orchestras, you can expect a comprehensive sound package. You'll also find a waveform library with no less than 741 MB of 3,977 different waveforms. All of these sounds can be edited to suit your needs, and they can also be combined with other waveforms. Furthermore, with more than 7,800 different arpeggiator styles, you have everything you need to program complete synthesizer lines. If that's not enough, you can make use of the sampler to create your own unique sounds, and you can save in all in one of the many user slots.

DAW compatibility and VCM effects

A modern synthesizer such as this Yamaha Motif XF7 is often used in studios, and for this reason, it's equipped with a Remote Control function so it will work perfectly together with your favourite DAW. The different buttons on the synthesizer's control panel work to control the various functions of your software. Furthermore, you can give all of the fantastic Yamaha sounds that little something extra by equipping them with high-quality DSP effects. These Virtual Circuitry Modeling effects are comparable to high-grade studio effects, and they can be modified in great detail, making the Motif XS7 a perfect choice for the versatile user.

NAMM 2016: Casio MZ-X: A New MZ-2000?

The image below recently turned up on the internet. Based on the text and the accompanying specifications, we assume that Casio is trying to lure us to their NAMM booth so they can present their latest keyboard/synthesizer: the MZ-X. This will likely remind keyboard enthusiasts of the MZ-2000, an old Casio model that, considering the words 'Reinvented, Reimagined, Reborn' is apparently about to be brought back to life. Rumour has it that two models will be released, the MZ-500 and the MZ-1000, but take that with a grain of salt; it's very possible that MZ-X is indeed the final name for this workstation.

NAMM 2016: Back to the '80s with Electro Harmonix

Late last year, Electro Harmonix introduced the Crash Pad Analog Drum Synth, and at NAMM 2016 they'll be unleashing the Super Space Drum. Where the Crash Pad creates electronic cymbal sounds, the Space Drum generates a typically '80s drum sound - electronic yet warm and full of character. It can be used as either a standalone unit, or in combination with a looper or clock generator, for instance.
