General
When Teenage Engineering released the first pocket operators, the unusual, minimalistic design of the pocket-size music devices immediately drew the attention. With the second batch of pocket operators, the innovative Swedish company has added three new fun additions to the line-up, each with its own colour. The red Teenage Engineering PO-28 robot is a small live synthesizer and sequencer with real 8-bit synth engines that allow you to create live and sequenced melodies and leads. On its own, it's good for hours of fun, but the great thing about the pocket operators is that they complement each other perfectly, so connecting them gives you even better results.
Characteristics of the Teenage Engineering PO-28
The PO-28's name and the robot arm that takes centre stage on its animated display are a dead giveaway; this pocket operator was designed to produce real robot tunes. Featuring 15 sounds + micro drum, 16 patterns, parameter locks, glide control and punch-in effects, it gives you plenty to occupy yourself with. Do the robot rock!
Pocket Operators
Like all Teenage Engineering products, the TE Pocket Operators offer a cool blend of stylish looks, remarkable functionality and awesome visuals - the animated display of the PO-28 robot, for instance, features an assembly line with a robot arm. Basically, the PO-28 is nothing more than a circuit board with a number of components, but Teenage Engineering has managed to add a built-in speaker, an alarm clock and a mini jack line in/out to the design. The live synth and sequencer is powered by two AAA batteries and easily fits in your pocket.

Ideaal is een setup met een ritmische synthesizer (zoals de PO-12) en een bas synthesizer (zoals de PO-14). In combinatie hiermee kan de PO-28 zowel een melodische ritme (patroon) als de bovenliggende melodie spelen.
Pluspunten:
* Minimalistisch design
* Krachtige synthesizer met twee stemmen (drie als je de monofone drum kit meetelt)
* Uitermate geschikt voor live jam sessies of live performances
Minpunten:
* Beperkt aanbod sounds
* Steile leercurve (gelijk aan de andere POs, dus leercurve is veel lager als je het concept reeds kent)
Als je wilt starten met synthesizers kan je zeker niets misdoen met een PO zoals deze.
Voor mij past deze perfect bij de arcade en kan je hem inzetten als lead.
De sequencer is ietwat meer een uitdaging.
De synth uit de tweede serie van de Pocket Operators. Met iets meer toonbereik een live-glide functie geeft deze PO een iets meer synth gevoel dan de PO-16 factory. Ook de micro-drums zijn wat bruikbaarder dan bij de PO-16.
Plussen en minnen:
+ PO-28: Vanwege de glide funtie (met sound 5), voor mij de leukste live-PO!
+ PO-28: Micro-drums als 16de geluid (gebruik een PO-12 voor volwaardigheid)
- PO-28: Geen echte nadelen specifiek voor deze PO-28. Het blijft een speeltje.
+ PO serie: Leuk speelgoed voor de muziek creatievelingen.
- PO serie: Klein, fragiel, maar solide. Hoesje nodig voor bescherming onderweg.

This will likely remind keyboard enthusiasts of the MZ-2000, an old Casio model that, considering the words 'Reinvented, Reimagined, Reborn' is apparently about to be brought back to life. Rumour has it that two models will be released, the MZ-500 and the MZ-1000, but take that with a grain of salt; it's very possible that MZ-X is indeed the final name for this workstation.
