General
When the Prophet '08 poly synth by Sequential (formerly known as Dave Smith Instruments) came out in 2007, it was an instant success that's been used in countless music productions since, earning it its well-deserved modern classic status. This time, Sequential presents the Prophet REV2, a 16-voiced polyphonic analogue synthesizer that's essentially a reincarnation of the original Prophet '08, but twice as powerful. Instead of eight, the REV2 boasts sixteen voices, each of which can be used bi-timbrally, giving you two completely different 8-voiced sounds that can be used either together or in split-mode.
The Sequential Prophet REV2: Serious Analogue Horsepower
The REV2 has two oscillators (DCO) per voice, a sub-octave on oscillator 1, and each oscillator offers four waveforms (sawtooth, triangle, sawtooth + triangle, pulse). Furthermore, it offers hard sync and you've got a wide range of filters, envelopes and LFOs at your disposal. There's also a step sequencer and an arpeggiator, as well as modulation options galore. Naturally, this top-notch synth also has all the connection options you could possibly need to integrate it into your current setup. As a joke, Dave Smith called the REV2 a 'monster of a synth', but with a polyphony of 16 voices, this analogue synth truly is a beast in the best possible sense of the word!

De eerste aanblik was al raak! Het uitpakken was een feest. Aansluiten, koptelefoon en hop: heel mooie volle en diepe klanken. Je ziet aan alles dat dit een met zorg gemaakt instrument is van hoge kwaliteit: alles wat je aanraakt is stevig en alle details zijn mooi afgewerkt. De knoppen voelen ook stevig aan maar draaien soepel. Ook de drukknoppen voel je duidelijk als je ze indrukt. De klanken die erin zitten zijn goed uitgekiend en al direct bruikbaar. Ook heel overzichtelijke en duidelijke lay-out. Wat echt knap bedacht is van Sequential is dat je deze fabrieksinstellingen niet kunt overschrijven, dus kan je ze niet kwijtraken. Je kan ze wel editten naar believen en dan je creaties opslaan (plaats genoeg in de meer dan 500 banken). Het enige minpunt tot nu is het lelijke logo van Sequential. Deze ga ik lang koesteren.
Geweldige bouwkwaliteit en stevige afwerking. Hert schermpje is het enige minpunt: dat had wat groter mogen zijn. Bovendien mis ik wel wat led displays voor bepaalde instellingen per sectie. Maar dat probleem kan worden opgevangen door een apart aan te schaffen software editor op de pc of macbook. Samengevat: een geweldige machine.

Het was het wachten waard! Wat een beest van een apparaat! Geluiden zijn geweldig. De presets zijn al goed, maar die kan je naar eigen inzicht op alle manieren die je maar wilt aanpassen. Het toetsenbord speelt ontzettend fijn. De knoppen voelen stevig! Erg blij met dit instrument!

Based on the text and the accompanying specifications, we assume that Casio is trying to lure us to their NAMM booth so they can present their latest keyboard/synthesizer: the MZ-X. This will likely remind keyboard enthusiasts of the MZ-2000, an old Casio model that, considering the words 'Reinvented, Reimagined, Reborn' is apparently about to be brought back to life. Rumour has it that two models will be released, the MZ-500 and the MZ-1000, but take that with a grain of salt; it's very possible that MZ-X is indeed the final name for this workstation.
