General

If you're familiar with the Roland SH-101 and Roland's Boutique series then you won't be surprised to hear that the Roland SH-01A is a Boutique series reissue of the legendary original. In addition to the classic monophonic mode, the new synth has unison, chord and 4-voice polyphonic modes which give you many more possibilities. All this is wrapped up in a more compact package too.

SH-01A: small and powerful

The real gem in the SH-01A is its built-in sequencer. Play something simple and the synth is capable of turning it into all sorts of original and wild sequences for you. Then all you need to do is shape the sound in real-time using the on-board controls. Not only is this great for hours of playing pleasure at home but it's also ideal for live performances and gives you a truly analogue playing experience. For synth fans who like to play things on a keyboard, the SH-01A can be connected to the Roland K-25m or any other MIDI controller. One thing is for sure, with the Roland SH-01A you're getting a synthesizer that is top quality.

NAMM 2016: Casio MZ-X: A New MZ-2000?

Monday 11 January 2016

The image below recently turned up on the internet. Based on the text and the accompanying specifications, we assume that Casio is trying to lure us to their NAMM booth so they can present their latest keyboard/synthesizer: the MZ-X. This will likely remind keyboard enthusiasts of the MZ-2000, an old Casio model that, considering the words 'Reinvented, Reimagined, Reborn' is apparently about to be brought back to life. Rumour has it that two models will be released, the MZ-500 and the MZ-1000, but take that with a grain of salt; it's very possible that MZ-X is indeed the final name for this workstation.
