General

The first thing you'll notice about the Roland Juno-DS 88 synthesizer is its impressive keyboard. If you aspire to be a successful pianist, you'll certainly be able to appreciate the hammer-action Ivory Feel-G keys of this synth. Despite its incredible prowess, the Juno-DS 88 can be powered by a mere eight AA batteries, which makes it perfect for mobile applications. Take it on the road with your band, for instance! Its true power, however, is its wide range of sounds, its arpeggiators and its 8-track pattern sequencer. Even beginners will quickly be able to make the most of this Roland synthesizer, thanks to its uncomplicated controls.

Characteristics of the Roland Juno-DS 88

When it comes to synthesizers, Roland has always been a true pioneer. Both their Jupiter models and the old Junos have earned their place in music history, so it shouldn't come as a surprise that the Juno-DS offers a sound that is remarkably warm, rich and diverse. In addition to the sounds from the Juno-DI, this synth boasts a number of beautiful acoustic and electric pianos, organs and useful live sounds. It's also possible to import your own sounds (samples); all you need is a USB stick with WAV files (44.1 kHz/16 bits). The synthesizer's eight phrase pads, meanwhile, can be used to trigger audio files, allowing for a versatile performance.

Who would benefit from the Juno-DS 88?

The Juno-DS is a real all-rounder that shines in the studio as well as on stage. Extensive audio editing is an option, but if you'd rather not, there are numerous presets for you to choose from. As a true Roland instrument, this Juno synthesizer features both high-grade sounds and effects, which is outstanding news for producers and songwriters who like to make a good impression. If you fancy adding some vocals, you'll be happy to hear that the Juno-DS has a microphone input with a dedicated reverb. Even vocoding and pitch correction are at your disposal, including extreme settings (such as the characteristic sound from Cher's hit song Believe).

Tips or comments about this product

Please note: it's not possible to power the Juno-DS with carbon-zinc or alkaline batteries.

This is an awesome keyboard. Primarily, I was looking for 88 keys, with a good piano feel. I also wanted a good range of high quality instrument sounds and percussion sets. Programmable synth functions were a must, along with programmable rhythm/accompaniments. The Juno delivers all this and more, and I'm extremely pleased with my purchase. The keyboard has a great feel, and the quality of the sounds is excellent. The large library of add-on patches is a further bonus... and you can use the Juno Di software editor if you want to play with the patches even further from the comfort of your PC screen.

Prachtige synthesizer, boordevol fantastische sounds!

NAMM 2016: Casio MZ-X: A New MZ-2000?

Monday 11 January 2016

The image below recently turned up on the internet. Based on the text and the accompanying specifications, we assume that Casio is trying to lure us to their NAMM booth so they can present their latest keyboard/synthesizer: the MZ-X. This will likely remind keyboard enthusiasts of the MZ-2000, an old Casio model that, considering the words 'Reinvented, Reimagined, Reborn' is apparently about to be brought back to life. Rumour has it that two models will be released, the MZ-500 and the MZ-1000, but take that with a grain of salt; it's very possible that MZ-X is indeed the final name for this workstation.

NAMM 2016: Back to the '80s with Electro Harmonix

Tuesday 12 January 2016

Late last year, Electro Harmonix introduced the Crash Pad Analog Drum Synth, and at NAMM 2016 they'll be unleashing the Super Space Drum. Where the Crash Pad creates electronic cymbal sounds, the Space Drum generates a typically '80s drum sound - electronic yet warm and full of character. It can be used as either a standalone unit, or in combination with a looper or clock generator, for instance.
