Roland's new Juno-D Series synthesizers follow in the footsteps of the popular Juno-DS models and represent a fresh generation of bread-and-butter synths with a lightweight design. The Roland Juno-D8 features various upgrades but is built on the same core concept, which means you're getting a massive amount of sounds that cover every style, from pianos and strings to wind instruments and synths. You're also looking at keys that have a hammer-action-style piano vibe, making the Juno-D8 ideal if your aim is to play realistic piano parts.

The Roland Juno-D8: Who's It For?

The new generation of Junos will no doubt become a staple in the studio scene. The solid sound of the ZEN-Core engine and the expansion potential offered by the Roland Cloud makes these synths remarkably robust, while the in-built sequencer gives users the ability to write songs without the need for a laptop on the side. The USB-C port guarantees flawless audio and MIDI signal transfer, and since you can plug a microphone into the fitted mic input, you can even sing along if you want to.

NAMM 2016: Casio MZ-X: A New MZ-2000?

The image below recently turned up on the internet. Based on the text and the accompanying specifications, we assume that Casio is trying to lure us to their NAMM booth so they can present their latest keyboard/synthesizer: the MZ-X. This will likely remind keyboard enthusiasts of the MZ-2000, an old Casio model that, considering the words 'Reinvented, Reimagined, Reborn' is apparently about to be brought back to life. Rumour has it that two models will be released, the MZ-500 and the MZ-1000, but take that with a grain of salt; it's very possible that MZ-X is indeed the final name for this workstation.

NAMM 2016: Back to the '80s with Electro Harmonix

Late last year, Electro Harmonix introduced the Crash Pad Analog Drum Synth, and at NAMM 2016 they'll be unleashing the Super Space Drum. Where the Crash Pad creates electronic cymbal sounds, the Space Drum generates a typically '80s drum sound - electronic yet warm and full of character. It can be used as either a standalone unit, or in combination with a looper or clock generator, for instance.
