General

To celebrate its century of existence, Moog serve up a super-special version of the theremin: the Moog Claravox Centennial Theremin. Named after OG theremin-virtuoso, Clara Rockmore, this unique synth is controlled by waving your hands in front of the fitted antennas, which then determine the pitch and the volume depending on the position of your hands.

The Moog Claravox Centennial Theremin: Maximum Expression

Check out the included product video and listen to the rendition of Debussy's 'Clair de Lune' to get a better impression. While it looks easy, what you're seeing requires quite a few hours of practice. Once you know what you're doing, the Claravox Centennial Theremin offers limitless expression, but you won't find any envelopes or LFOs since every last nuance is literally created by hand. The built-in BBD delay is there so you can add an extra dimension to your sound, which you can build up around various waveforms and the integrated filter.

NAMM 2016: Casio MZ-X: A New MZ-2000?

Monday 11 January 2016

The image below recently turned up on the internet. Based on the text and the accompanying specifications, we assume that Casio is trying to lure us to their NAMM booth so they can present their latest keyboard/synthesizer: the MZ-X. This will likely remind keyboard enthusiasts of the MZ-2000, an old Casio model that, considering the words 'Reinvented, Reimagined, Reborn' is apparently about to be brought back to life. Rumour has it that two models will be released, the MZ-500 and the MZ-1000, but take that with a grain of salt; it's very possible that MZ-X is indeed the final name for this workstation.
