General

Modal Electronics' Skulpt synthesizer offers even more possibilities than the similar Craft Synth 2.0. This virtual analogue synthesizer has four voices, each of which has eight oscillators! With FM, ring modulation, a versatile filter and a comprehensive modulation matrix, there are plenty of options for shaping sounds. Delay and distortion means you can add more spaciousness and a raw edge to sounds too. You can even chain up to four Skulpts together giving you total of 16 voices! This synth even boasts aftertouch so that you can add even more expression to your sounds.

Skulpt: use it anywhere

The Skulpt synthesizer is easy to integrate into any studio or live setup. It's extremely portable too and the fact that you can power it with batteries as well as USB means you can use it almost anywhere. There are 128 presets on board that you can edit however you like and, of course, you can also create and save your sounds.

NAMM 2016: Casio MZ-X: A New MZ-2000?

Monday 11 January 2016

The image below recently turned up on the internet. Based on the text and the accompanying specifications, we assume that Casio is trying to lure us to their NAMM booth so they can present their latest keyboard/synthesizer: the MZ-X. This will likely remind keyboard enthusiasts of the MZ-2000, an old Casio model that, considering the words 'Reinvented, Reimagined, Reborn' is apparently about to be brought back to life. Rumour has it that two models will be released, the MZ-500 and the MZ-1000, but take that with a grain of salt; it's very possible that MZ-X is indeed the final name for this workstation.
