General

Modal Electronics' Craft Synth 2.0 is a compact synthesizer that has more possibilities than you might first think. It's a small monophonic wavetable desktop synth with a touch keyboard and several encoders. There's a choice of 40 unique waveforms available and eight oscillators that allow for plenty of sound tweaking. Oscillator effects include FM, sync, ring mod, bitcrush, waveshapers and more. There are also envelopes for filter, amplitude and modulation as well as two audio-rate LFOs and an 8-slot modulation matrix. The two-pole filter morphs effortlessly from low pass to band pass to high pass. That's not all: this little box of tricks also has an arpeggiator and lots of other presets and effects on board.

Craft Synth 2.0: Easy to integrate

The Craft Synth 2.0 is easy to integrate into any studio or live setup thanks to its range of connection options. This includes MIDI and analogue clock sync inputs and outputs which come in handy when you want to combine it with a drum machine, for instance. The fact that it can run on three AA batteries as well as USB power means it's highly portable too. All 64 presets are fully editable and you can save any sounds you make yourself to one of the available memory slots. Whether you're an experienced synth user or you're just starting out, you'll find plenty to enjoy on the Craft Synth 2.0.

NAMM 2016: Casio MZ-X: A New MZ-2000?

Monday 11 January 2016

The image below recently turned up on the internet. Based on the text and the accompanying specifications, we assume that Casio is trying to lure us to their NAMM booth so they can present their latest keyboard/synthesizer: the MZ-X. This will likely remind keyboard enthusiasts of the MZ-2000, an old Casio model that, considering the words 'Reinvented, Reimagined, Reborn' is apparently about to be brought back to life. Rumour has it that two models will be released, the MZ-500 and the MZ-1000, but take that with a grain of salt; it's very possible that MZ-X is indeed the final name for this workstation.
