General

It hasn't been very long since the Korg Minilogue XD came out. This is a true piece of creative machinery with analogue and digital oscillators, the latter of which can even be personally adjusted if you've got the technical skills for it. The regular XD features a 37-note mini keyboard and although it's a nice addition, not everyone will find this equally useful. That's even more so if you already own a great MIDI keyboard. That's why Korg has decided to bring the Minilogue XD Module to the market. It's exactly the same as the Minilogue XD but without the keyboard. However, should you randomly find yourself in need of a keyboard, don't fret. You can set up and use the row of sequencer buttons underneath the turning knobs as a mini keyboard. How cool is that?

The Korg Minilogue XD Module in a nutshell

The Minilogue XD Module is equipped with two analogue oscillators and one digital. The digital oscillator is multi-engine sound generator capable of producing three different types of sound: noise, VPM (FM-like) and open-source user oscillators. Do you already own the Korg Minilogue XD? Don't sell it just yet! You can poly-chain the two of them together in a master/slave configuration to create an 8-voice polyphony system.

NAMM 2016: Casio MZ-X: A New MZ-2000?

Monday 11 January 2016

The image below recently turned up on the internet. Based on the text and the accompanying specifications, we assume that Casio is trying to lure us to their NAMM booth so they can present their latest keyboard/synthesizer: the MZ-X. This will likely remind keyboard enthusiasts of the MZ-2000, an old Casio model that, considering the words 'Reinvented, Reimagined, Reborn' is apparently about to be brought back to life. Rumour has it that two models will be released, the MZ-500 and the MZ-1000, but take that with a grain of salt; it's very possible that MZ-X is indeed the final name for this workstation.
