The trimmed-down desktop edition of the IK Multimedia Uno Synth Pro comes neatly packed inside a smaller box and comes at a smaller price. While the IK Multimedia Uno Synth Pro Desktop is virtually identical to the full-sized original, the housing has been made from plastic, and the keyboard has been reduced right down to a sort of touch-keyboard. Meanwhile, this genuine mono-synth boasts three oscillators that can actually be manipulated paraphonically. In practice, this means that you can play full chords since the oscillators are sent through the filters and envelopes at the same time. In terms of controls, your getting the full and fast IK Multimedia treatment thanks to a clear central parameter grid that can be tweaked with ease and accuracy using the provided set of encoders.

While this write-up might read much like any other synthesizer, what sets the Uno Synth Desktop apart is the audio source. Besides standard waveforms, this space-saving synth offers ring modulation and oscillator-sync - expanding the sound-shaping potential even further. Those all important finishing touches can be added using three effects slots, so you can wet everything up with reverb, delay, and drive, or combine them to build a thick and rumbling synth sound. Add the built-in arpegiator and x0x-style sequencer, and you've got a comprehensive and far-reaching little production tool at your service that can even be seamlessly integrated into your existing computer or Eurorack-based setup, using the fitted I, CV/Gate and USB-MIDI ports.

Dit is een geweldig product met een eigen software editor! Ik heb deze unit naast mn Uno Synth Pro X gehad en de reden was om zo ook toetsen beschikbaar te hebben. Het is eigenlijk een hele mooie set samen omdat het ene model ook het andere model kan aansturen. De klank is ook echt fantastisch en de modulatie matrix is eindeloos. Neem de cv gate's in en out. de audio in? Echt heel veel voor weinig.

Absoluut een aanrader en ik gebruik al 25 jaar synths.

NAMM 2016: Casio MZ-X: A New MZ-2000?

The image below recently turned up on the internet. Based on the text and the accompanying specifications, we assume that Casio is trying to lure us to their NAMM booth so they can present their latest keyboard/synthesizer: the MZ-X. This will likely remind keyboard enthusiasts of the MZ-2000, an old Casio model that, considering the words 'Reinvented, Reimagined, Reborn' is apparently about to be brought back to life. Rumour has it that two models will be released, the MZ-500 and the MZ-1000, but take that with a grain of salt; it's very possible that MZ-X is indeed the final name for this workstation.

NAMM 2016: Back to the '80s with Electro Harmonix

Late last year, Electro Harmonix introduced the Crash Pad Analog Drum Synth, and at NAMM 2016 they'll be unleashing the Super Space Drum. Where the Crash Pad creates electronic cymbal sounds, the Space Drum generates a typically '80s drum sound - electronic yet warm and full of character. It can be used as either a standalone unit, or in combination with a looper or clock generator, for instance.
