General

Any synth history buff knows there have been countless conventional synths and probably just as many peculiar ones. The Electronic Dream Plant Wasp stems from the late '70s and may be counted among the peculiar ones (aka 'special') with its black-yellow design. Though it lacked the looks of a Jupiter model, it certainly reached cult status and the original designer would later help create the famous OSCar synth. Due to its pocket-size and cult status, Behringer rightfully decided to reincarnate the Wasp and have dubbed it the Behringer Wasp Deluxe.

Specifications of the Behringer Wasp Deluxe

The Wasp Deluxe is a monophonic synthesizer equipped with two digital oscillators and a VCF and VCA, which make for a perfect analogue-to-digital ratio. Traditionally speaking, the Wasp was widely used for effects like little beeps and boops and, since this Behringer model is a basically an improved clone, you can expect more of the same. So, if you're looking for rich synth pads, you're probably better off with a different model. But if you're looking to integrate a synth packed with oddities, anomalies and antiquities into your Eurorack, you've certainly come to the right place.

Fantastic little beast. Spend some time getting to know it and you'll discover it does a lot more than you'd expect. Fat bass sounds, super leads, truly dirty sounds and drones to die for. A perfect addition if you're after a "different " sound.
For the price here, you can't go wrong.

NAMM 2016: Casio MZ-X: A New MZ-2000?

Monday 11 January 2016

The image below recently turned up on the internet. Based on the text and the accompanying specifications, we assume that Casio is trying to lure us to their NAMM booth so they can present their latest keyboard/synthesizer: the MZ-X. This will likely remind keyboard enthusiasts of the MZ-2000, an old Casio model that, considering the words 'Reinvented, Reimagined, Reborn' is apparently about to be brought back to life. Rumour has it that two models will be released, the MZ-500 and the MZ-1000, but take that with a grain of salt; it's very possible that MZ-X is indeed the final name for this workstation.

NAMM 2016: Back to the '80s with Electro Harmonix

Tuesday 12 January 2016

Late last year, Electro Harmonix introduced the Crash Pad Analog Drum Synth, and at NAMM 2016 they'll be unleashing the Super Space Drum. Where the Crash Pad creates electronic cymbal sounds, the Space Drum generates a typically '80s drum sound - electronic yet warm and full of character. It can be used as either a standalone unit, or in combination with a looper or clock generator, for instance.
