General

The Arp Odyssey is an old friend. Even before it was vintage, new and established artists were eager to get their hands on it. As such, every few years, Korg have given this veteran synth a welcome remake. Now it is time for Behringer to have a crack at recreating this golden oldie in the form of the Behringer Odyssey. At first glance, it looks much like the old Odyssey (MK3) but there are subtle differences that hint at its contemporary innards. A display screen and the option of MIDI and USB-MIDI, for starters. What is most outstanding is the sound quality and playability, which is close to indistinguishable from that of the original Arp. This is a compact, 37 key synthesizer that packs in a surprising number of possibilities. The Arp goes way further than oscillation and filters and will attract fader-happy sound-designers seeking that authentic feel and sound.

I've had the Odyssey for a few days now and finding it increasingly difficult to stop messing around with it. I read reviews for loads of different analogue synths, before finally choosing the Odyssey. It was the best decision I've ever made. It's a heavy, quality synth, with loads of sound possibilities. If you're new to fully analogue synth's, you need to be prepared to spend time learning how to use it. It'll be worth your while. It's duophonic (if you want monophonic, just connect CV out to CV in, on the rear) and affects how you play it. The sounds you can get from it are stunning. The Behringer Odyssey also has an additional effects section and arpeggiator/sequencer. It's a great instrument and with time spent, you won't be disappointed!

This is big, it's heavy but well put together. The sound matches the physical size and the addition of the fx section only enhances this. The price and delivery from Bax were first class. I'm one happy owner.

Spent some time in choosing this synth, eventually ordered it and so pleased with the choice. What a great instrument. If you need a versatile analogue mono synth look no further than this, easy to use and great value for money.

Owned a few axxes over the year but this synth is a killer mono duo synth. Dirty, powerful and very musical analog. What a stunning synth with great modern features. Worth every penny. 10/10. Fast delivery and great service from bax. Well done guys.

Fantastische synthesizer zonder enige twijfel.

NAMM 2016: Casio MZ-X: A New MZ-2000?

Monday 11 January 2016

The image below recently turned up on the internet. Based on the text and the accompanying specifications, we assume that Casio is trying to lure us to their NAMM booth so they can present their latest keyboard/synthesizer: the MZ-X. This will likely remind keyboard enthusiasts of the MZ-2000, an old Casio model that, considering the words 'Reinvented, Reimagined, Reborn' is apparently about to be brought back to life. Rumour has it that two models will be released, the MZ-500 and the MZ-1000, but take that with a grain of salt; it's very possible that MZ-X is indeed the final name for this workstation.
