General

The Behringer K-2 is a monophonic analogue synthesizer and is the ultimate temptation for sound-tweakers. Most said tweakers might wonder where they've seen this build and list of specs before since this model is a faithful recreation of the legend that was (and is) the Korg MS-20, in a Eurorack format. This synth may look like a fairly basic synthesizer, but the unexpected power here lies in the patch section on the right. This is where the magic happens since here, you can shift the routing of the synth and create an entirely new structure. While this process requires more than a few nights of experimenting and an understanding of synth-jargon, once you get the hang of it, there's pretty much no limit to the amount of sounds you can make.

External Source for the Behringer K-2

By connecting an external sound-source to the K-2, you can add things like vocals or a second synthesizer to the synthesis. You could even use a poly-chain of up to sixteen instances, effectively building a polyphony of sixteen. In short, sound designers who can't find or simply cannot afford the price of an original MS-20, should get their hands on the K-2.

NAMM 2016: Casio MZ-X: A New MZ-2000?

Monday 11 January 2016

The image below recently turned up on the internet. Based on the text and the accompanying specifications, we assume that Casio is trying to lure us to their NAMM booth so they can present their latest keyboard/synthesizer: the MZ-X. This will likely remind keyboard enthusiasts of the MZ-2000, an old Casio model that, considering the words 'Reinvented, Reimagined, Reborn' is apparently about to be brought back to life. Rumour has it that two models will be released, the MZ-500 and the MZ-1000, but take that with a grain of salt; it's very possible that MZ-X is indeed the final name for this workstation.

NAMM 2016: Back to the '80s with Electro Harmonix

Tuesday 12 January 2016

Late last year, Electro Harmonix introduced the Crash Pad Analog Drum Synth, and at NAMM 2016 they'll be unleashing the Super Space Drum. Where the Crash Pad creates electronic cymbal sounds, the Space Drum generates a typically '80s drum sound - electronic yet warm and full of character. It can be used as either a standalone unit, or in combination with a looper or clock generator, for instance.
