Following the Orba and Instrument 1, Artiphon present another unique bit of kit in the form of the Chorda: an MPE-compatible synthesizer, looper, sampler and MIDI controller in one. While hard to define and stick in a box, the Chorda is a brilliant tool for creative music-makers, and a brilliantly portable one at that. If you're always on the lookout for the latest tech-packed gear, this thing is literally made for you.
Features of the Artiphon Chorda
The most important part of this smart synth is its large, multidimensional touch interface, which supports expressive use and comes alongside support for MIDI Polyphonic Expression (MPE). The Chorda can be played like a traditional keyboard, but also as a violin, cello or guitar. There's a motion sensor inside which means that even the angle at which its held is a parameter, and Artiphone have loaded in four sound sections (lead, chord, bass and drums) so you can create humble arrangements on the fly using the integrated looper. More sounds and songs can be added via the Artiphone app.

Based on the text and the accompanying specifications, we assume that Casio is trying to lure us to their NAMM booth so they can present their latest keyboard/synthesizer: the MZ-X. This will likely remind keyboard enthusiasts of the MZ-2000, an old Casio model that, considering the words 'Reinvented, Reimagined, Reborn' is apparently about to be brought back to life. Rumour has it that two models will be released, the MZ-500 and the MZ-1000, but take that with a grain of salt; it's very possible that MZ-X is indeed the final name for this workstation.
