General
When it comes to studio recording, an honest sound is one of your most important assets. That's why Behringer has designed the B2031A reference monitors, so you don't have to accept anything less than the TRUTH. Of course they'll sound excellent in your stereo or video surround system, and they'll sound phenomenal in your studio, where every note played needs to be inspected with microscopic detail.
The TRUTH B20301A monitors have been so successful that thousands have been sold to the most critical ears on earth. Thanks to their high-quality performance, the B2031A active two-way speakers are perfect for near-field monitor applications - from small mixing environments to multi-channel surround configurations.
The B2031A has a peak output level of more than 116 dB SPL, and is driven by built-in 80 and 25W amplifiers, combined with a super precise active crossover. These monitors deliver an extremely linear frequency response of 50 Hz to 21 kHz.
Hand-calibration
At the end of the assembly line, each B2031A spends a half hour with a calibration technician who adjusts the monitor with extreme precision for the most linear frequency response possible. Each speaker comes with a calibration certificate that indicates the effective frequencies response and the time of testing, so you know you're getting a quality product.
Home speakers can be really misleading when it comes to testing bass output, which is why recording technicians and producers need to listen to projects with studio reference monitors and studio-grade headphones. The B2031A's 8.79-inch long-throw polypropylene diaphragm woofer delivers a tight, deep bass response up to 50 Hz. And it delivers the kind of bass that won't be over-amplified like in home systems - a solid bass that truthfully represents the recorded sound and is full of nuance, the sound of fingers on strings and the sound of air in lungs, that's the kind of truthful sound you can expect.
Materials, components and technology
Polypropylene was chosen for fashioning the woofer, and offers strength and a light weight, so the woofer can react quickly and precisely to transient peaks. This low-mass cone material is also much stiffer than paper, which is not only important for keeping the integrity of the bass, but also critical for mid-range precision and definition. The deformity-resistant die-cast aluminium chassis provides excellent protection and suspension integrity, and it ensures the efficient cooling of voice coils under even the most extreme working conditions.
The HF (high frequency) content in the B2031A comes from a 1-inch ferrite-cooled tweeter that has been mounted on Behringer's own wave guide, which was designed to provide a broader listening zone than conventional studio monitors. That means that you can move around freely within the stereo image to find the ideal sweet spot in the mix for the subtle placement of effects or instruments.
Furthermore, 105 watts of bi-amplified technology (including a time and phase-optimised active crossover) have been loaded into the B2031A so you have power reserved for when you need it. The unique Behringer waveguide and low-distortion crossover network ensure absolutely linear frequencies with an outstanding sound dispersion and stereo image.
Environment
The ideal listening environment for these speakers is in a flat room without too much echo or absorption. But because every room has its own personal acoustic sound, all of the TRUTH monitors have been equipped to function in most any situation, and you can adjust the low and high frequency characteristics to perform optimally in your listening environment.
Keep in mind that ideal speaker placement is far from any walls, to guarantee good bass response. Don't worry though, because the B2031A monitors come equipped with Room Compensation switches so you can place them against the wall or in a corner, should you so desire. Walls have a tendency to drown out the bass, and corners even more so, but your TRUTH speakers will readily compensate for this.
Because the placement of studio monitors has such a big effect on their performance, they are often placed in such a way that makes the on/off switch on the back difficult to reach. Thankfully, Behringer thought of this, and added an auto power switch, that when active turns the system on as soon as there's an incoming signal. When it's not picking up any signals, the speaker goes automatically into standby mode, and after five minutes it goes to sleep.
Finally, the B2031A is equipped with servo-balanced inputs with XLR and 6.3mm connectors, making it suited for nearly any sound source. Thanks to its compact dimensions and magnetic protection, the TRUTH B2031A can be placed next to your computer screens.
