General

This Akai RPM500 is a powerful active studio monitor with a black housing and a bright red woofer. The bi-amped monitor is driven by a 90W Class A/B amplifier that sends 50 watts to the 5.25-inch woofer and 40 watts to the 1.25-inch silk-dome tweeter. The RMP500 offers a great power reserve and a wide dynamic range - indispensable for monitor applications, which require a different kind of reproduction than a hifi signal.

Akai RPM500: characteristics

The sleek black housing has an ultra-solid construction that prevents sound colouring caused by resonance and other anomalies. Bass tones are provided by a bright red woofer made of Kevlar, a properly rigid material that reduces unwanted resonance to a minimum. The RPM500 reproduces clear, transparent low frequencies from 50 Hz and is perfectly capable of handling intense bass parts, which are ubiquitous in music genres like EDM. The silky soft tweeter takes care of the trebles, ensuring a frequency response of up to 30 kHz.

Control

The settings of the RPM500 can be adjusted to fully suit your listening preferences and the acoustics of the room - a prerequisite if you want to be able to monitor your mixes in a professional way. Four switches determine the cut-off for the low frequencies (flat/80/100 Hz), the mid boost, the treble level (-2/0/+2 dB) and the proximity control (-6/-2 dB/flat). Audio inputs come in three different flavours: XLR and jack (combined) are your balanced options, while unbalanced signal transfers run via RCA. The RPM500 is suited for both nearfield and midfield applications, and delivers a reliable reproduction of any type of music.
