Why not treat your cherished single-cut axe to the worthy upgrade that is the Graph Tech BQL-6010-00 slotted nut. Shaped from TUSQ XL and soaked in PTFE (Teflon), this nut has been developed to prolong string-life and improve both intonation and playability.

The Benefits of TUSQ

Since previously used organic materials like bone and (further back in the guitar-making game) ivory can be pretty inconsistent, synthetic TUSQ was developed as a material that could be manufactured with precision, therefore maintaining consistency. A nut made out of TUSQ also pulls a rich and transparent quality of sound out of the strings and, since it's so resonant, more harmonics and sustain is injected into the overall tone.

Deze topkam is bedoeld voor een iets bredere nek dan die van mijn Epiphone Les Paul zoals bijvoorbeeld, naar ik begrepen heb, die van een Gibson. Ook is hij iets minder dik, zodat hij wat ruimte laat tussen mijn Epiphone-afdekplaatje van de trussrod en de topkam zelf. Dit neemt niet weg dat ook na wat vijlen om hem minder breed te maken, het een zeer merkbare verbetering levert qua klank ook als ik gewoon zonder versterker speel. Ik kan de snaren ook duidelijk langer door horen klinken.

Wat ik wel moet opmerken is dat deze topkammen machinaal gegoten worden, wat inhoudt dat er nog wat schuurwerk aan te pas komt om de restjes materiaal waar het gaatje naar de gietmal zat weg te halen. Als je dat over het hoofd ziet is hij niet recht in te lijmen en dat kan een probleem vormen. Je hebt dus wel een vijltje nodig. Anders dan dat, top kam en topkam.

Ik had een te ver ingesleten topkam op mijn Gibson Classic en deze Graptech besteld. Blij dat ik de standaard topkam vervangen heb, want de sustain is nu echt fenomenaal! Je merkt het al als je de standaard topkam op een hard oppervlak laat vallen en hetzelfde doet met de Graptech: de laatste geeft een 'glasachtig' geluid. De topkam paste perfect, uiteraard moet je wel iets van de onderzijde en zijkanten afhalen. Echt een aanrader!
