General

A quick glance at this affordable left-handed dreadnought from Sigma Guitars might make you think you're looking at a well-known American brand. And unlike other guitars produced in the far east, this model does actually have a link to Martin guitars. That can be seen not only in the DM-1STL's appearance but also in its sound and finish. This instrument is certainly no cheap copy. The body is made of high-quality wood types with a solid top. The hardware includes a string nut and bridge saddle made of genuine cow bone. For a price that's little more than you'd pay for a budget model, you get a guitar with a professional sound and look.

Sound and construction of the DM-1STL

The DM-1STL is a left-handed guitar that has a solid spruce top, while the back and sides are made of laminated mahogany. The neck is also made of mahogany with a 20-fret rosewood fretboard. All in all, this results is an instrument with a lovely, balanced tone. Mahogany and rosewood provide the warmth, while the spruce adds the sparkle. The shape of a dreadnought ensures a full sound that is further enhanced by the solid top on this model. Another quality hardware feature are the machine heads that give this lovely sounding dreadnought excellent tuning stability too.

Sigma Guitars

Sigma guitars first saw the light of day in 1970 when they were manufactured under the supervision of the well-known company Martin & Co. They were designed to compete with the flood of cheap guitars coming from Asia. In 2007, production was ended but four years later a German firm bought the rights and the name and with Martin's approval the guitars are now manufactured in China. It's worth noting that the design of the headstock and the construction of the instruments still resemble Martin's version and therefore have to meet strict standards. This means that Sigma guitars are excellent value for money. In the US, the name Sigma brand is now known as Kindred guitars as they let their rights to use the Sigma name lapse.

Sigma Guitars DM-1STL left-handed acoustic steel-string guitar
Wrote the following about Sigma Guitars DM-1STL left-handed acoustic steel-string guitar
