General
Since wood naturally matures over the years, so does the sound of an acoustic guitar. To speed up the maturation process, Merida Guitars have torrefied the solid sitka spruce soundboard of the J10GAC and sealed it with an open pore finish. By torrefying (or gently roasting) the wood in an oxygen free environment, any moisture is evaporated, leaving the wood lighter, and changing the structure, resulting in enhanced resonance and the more played-in tone that's adored by fingerpickers and flat-pickers alike. The sound of this comfortable, grand-auditorium-bodied acoustic guitar is then completed by the richness and warmth of the African mahogany sides and back and a set of D’Addario strings, while the deep cutaway provides eased access to the higher frets.

De top is geen AAA kwaliteit, zoals ook op de foto's te zien is, maar lijkt wel uit 2 delen. De kleur is wat slordig/vlekkerig aangebracht, maar dat zou ook aan het hout kunnen liggen. De top is glad afgelakt met een mat/satijn glans. Een blik binnenin laat X-bracing zien met vierkante scalloped toonbalken. Geen lijmresten te zien.
De (solid!) mahonie body heeft mooi hout en is open-pore afgewerkt, dat ziet er goed uit.
De nek is (denk ik) van Nato en eveneens open-pore afgewerkt. Die had wat gladder mogen zijn, al is dat tijdens het spelen niet te merken. Fijn dun C profiel, iets slanker dan mijn strat.
Topkam is 43 mm breed, de medium fretten zijn netjes afgewerkt maar niet gepolijst. Zwarte binding langs het fretboard. Ik dacht dat ik fret markers ging missen, maar de zij markers zijn goed zichtbaar.
Uit de doos kwam de gitaar ongeveer op Eb gestemd, alleen de hoge e week wat af, een goed teken van tuning stabiliteit. Gestemd op Eb was de snaarhoogte acceptabel.
Eenmaal op E gestemd kwamen de snaren nog wel iets omhoog, ruim 3 mm boven de 12e fret. Na verdere afstelling van truss rod en brug (1 mm afgevijld) is het nu perfect.
Een top gitaar voor 'weinig'. Full solid gitaar voor 139€ ? Is dat iets? Zeker!
De enige opmerking die ik heb is dat het bovenblad niet 'bookmatched'uit twee delen bestaat maar volgens mij uit 4 delen is samengesteld. Als je zelf even de snaarhoogte meet en zonodig de brug (Bone!) aan de onderkant iets afschuurt tot de juiste snaarhoogte, ( Voor mij 1.5 mm bij de e snaar en 2mm bij de E snaar) heb je een perfect bespeelbare en goed geintoneerde gitaar waar je echt versteld van zult staan.
