Martin's D Jr. is an attractively-priced dreadnought acoustic guitar with a slightly shorter scale length of 24 inches. This model has a spruce top with a back and sides made of sapele and a fretboard and bridge made of FSC-certified Richlite. The wood types combine to give it a clear, deep tone and it comes complete with a gig bag.

Ik heb lang gewikt en gewogen om een goed klinkende, fijn spelende en 'handzame' (dus kleinere) akoestische gitaar te kiezen. Via internet (en Youtube met name) kwam ik uiteindelijk uit op: óf een Taylor GS-mini óf deze Martin D jr. Beide gitaren krijgen héél goede recensies en helaas heb ik geen dealers in mijn omgeving waar ik ze had kunnen uitproberen, dus mijn uiteindelijke keuze was een beetje een gok.... De doorslag gaf het feit dat Bax Music geen Taylors verkoopt, maar wel allerlei Martins, waaronder deze! Dus omdat ik een vaste en tevreden klant van bax-shop.nl ben heb ik de Martin D jr. besteld en op de volgende dag - zoals gebruikelijk prima geregeld - ontvangen.
En of ik er blij mee ben! Mijn oude Eko Ranger VI kan naar Marktplaats of naar de kringloopwinkel, want deze (in Mexico gebouwde) Martin klinkt echt geweldig en speelt dankzij zijn iets bredere hals (dan de meeste zgn. reisgitaren) heel comfortabel. Het geluid doet niet onder voor welke 'senior'-gitaar die ik ooit bespeeld heb en is dus alleen maar véél beter.
De klankkast van deze Martin is volledig (alle zijden dus) van massief hout (nergens 'multiplex' dus) en ge-olied ipv. gelakt; dat laatste is wel een beetje wennen, want 't voelt als een (luxe) sigarenkist waarop je speelt: heel droog....
NB. Er is ook een D jr E (met piëzo-element) te koop (met 15% extra korting bij Bax momenteel), maar die raad ik af, want opnamen met dat element klinken heel erg onnatuurlijk. Ik gebruik de iRig Acoustic voor opnamen via mijn iPad of audio-interface, en die klinkt stukken beter!
