General
While you might not spot them at first glance, this Tama Starphonic 13x7" snare packs several nifty technical features and its 1-mm thick steel shell helps to produce a sharp, slice-through-anything sound. Of course, it depends on how it's tuned but regardless of whether you go for a higher or lower tuning, you can rest assured that you'll be punching through any mix. It does great on stage and arguably even better in the studio!
The Tama PST137 Starphonic Steel Snare Drum 13 x 7"
It all starts with the tension rods, which Tama calls Freedom Lugs and Claw Hooks. Together, these allow you to quickly swap drum heads because the tension rods only need to be partly unscrewed before you can tilt the whole thing sideways. This not only saves you a lot of time, you'll also never lose one of the tension rods again. Similarly, Tama have put extra thought in designing the butt-end as well, which means it can be removed to replace the resonant drumhead by loosening the snare wires on one end without losing any tension. Fast, simple and super user-friendly! Little rubber blocks in the claws keep the tension rod from coming loose so the tuning remains stable, and this Starphonic Series steel snare drum is fitted with Super Sensitive Hi-Carbon snare wires for a bright sound filled with even the smallest details.
