If you want a deep sounding snare drum, then it seems logical to prefer an 8-inch deep drum to a 6.5 or 5-inch deep one. In that case the Pearl FTAL1480 Free Floating Task Specific 14 x 8-inch snare drum is a very good choice. It's a snare that uses Pearl Free Floating technology, where the shell 'floats free' from the hardware. That way it is not dampened in any way, making it easier for the shell to vibrate and maximising the output of sound. In short, this is a snare drum with a deep sound, smooth mids and clear highs.
