General

To build a snare that would match the American jazz drummer's ruthless, fearless and unstoppable style, Mapex called for the help of Ralph Peterson himself, who then fully dedicated himself to the design and development of what would become the Mapex Black Panther Ralph Peterson: a hefty, 14-by-8-inch snare drum with a 7-ply maple shell made up of six layers of North-American maple and a slice of maple burl. Just like the hardware and the batter head, the shell comes cloaked in black and fitted with Evans-made drumheads. Sadly, Ralph passed away in 2021 and never got to witness the fruit of his labour. To stay true to his vision and legacy, Peterson's loved ones and management decided to greenlight the completion of his project.
