General
The trumpet is a popular brass instrument known for its grand, far-reaching sound. And while a big, amplified sound is great during a performance or when you're out busking, it might not be so great for your roommates or neighbours. . . or even the people who live down the block when you're practising. So what's a musician to do? Images of determined trumpet players practising in their cars or hiking for miles to find a deserted grove where they can finally practise without feeling guilty come to mind, but we all know those aren't viable - or at least preferable - options. The real solution is actually quite simple: the Yamaha SB7X Silent Brass for trumpet and cornet.
Characteristics of the SB7X
The system consists of two parts, the first of which is a pickup mute that minimalises the actual sound coming from the trumpet. Along with that comes the Brass Resonance Modelling system, which is a small box that produces a new trumpet sound, based on the air flow going into the mute. What you hear on your headphones is the output from the modelling system, produced by your embouchure and valves. Your roommates and neighbours will love you again, and you'll love the quality of the emulation.
Play along
If the SB7X was just a mute system, it would still be an excellent purchase all on its own, but there's more! With an additional cable you can connect an audio source, for example an MP3 player, via the AUX input on the modelling system so you can play along with your music without bothering anyone. The cherry on top is the adjustable reverb option, which makes it easy to integrate your sound with the ambiance of the original music.
Tips or comments about this productPlease note:
- A cable for connecting external audio sources to the AUX in is not typically included.
- This pickup mute does not fit the following instruments: piccolo trumpet, alto/tenor horn, baritone, alto trombone, bass trombone and special fanfare models.

One drawback is you can't easily play above mf as the back pressure really starts to kick in when you try to put any real volume of air through the instrument, but is certainly no worse than other practice mutes. All in all, I give it 9/10.
Erg licht in gebruik!
Levering was heel snel.Top!
