General

A flugelhorn is an excellent alternative for anyone who wants a softer, warmer tone than that of a trumpet, and while it's an extremely popular choice for fanfares, it might not be quite so popular with your roommates and neighbours. Brass instruments are known for their excellent dynamic range, as your neighbours know, and especially in the beginning it might not be so easy to control those dynamics. In short, you need a mute. And not the kind of mute that's used in jazz, but one that actually physically mutes your instrument, like the Yamaha SB6X Silent Brass for flugelhorn.

Characteristics of the SB6X

The SB6X mute is the special Yamaha Pickup Mute that allows little no sound sound to escape from your instrument. Instead, the mute sends the characteristics of your original air flow to the Brass Resonance Modeling system, which is a little black cabinet that generates sound based on the emulation of the flugelhorn. Basically, you're playing a type of synthesizer where your flugelhorn is the controller, though the difference in sound is practically nothing.

Play along

The SB6X is an ideal accessory for any flugelhorn player who wants to practice quietly. But it's not only that! The small cabinet that contains the modelling system also contains an AUX input (3.5mm jack) so you can connect an MP3 player; just attach your headphones and you can play along with your favourite music! The cherry on top is the reverb adjustment capability that allows you to beautifully integrate the ambiance of the original sound.

Tips or comments about this product

Please note:

  • A cable for connecting external audio sources to the AUX in is not typically included.
  • This pickup mute does not fit the following instruments: piccolo trumpet, alto/tenor horn, baritone, alto trombone or bass trombone.
  • This pickup mute also doesn't fit instruments with models that diverge from standard models intended for fanfare/show bands, such as the mellophone.
