General

The French horn is one of the more popular brass instruments, especially in film soundtracks. The full, demure sound that this instrument has makes it a beautiful addition to a brass ensemble. It's no surprise then that you play or want to play the French horn! But, what do your housemates think about it? Chances are they'd prefer you take up a quieter instrument like the recorder, but don't fret! Yamaha is here for you with the Yamaha SB3X Silent Brass for French horn.

Characteristics of the SB3X

The phenomenal mute is known for adding radical versatility to horn music. Conversely, the Silent Brass mute, or as Yamaha calls it, the Pickup Mute, takes everything away. This mute allows you to play in silence, which is a rather special experience for anyone used to playing a brass instrument. Connect your pickup mute to the little box included with the system, and it will generate the sound based on the airflow that goes into the mute. Plug in headphones to hear your playing, and enjoy!

Play along

Whether you're practising at home or just want to review your own part in an orchestra, the Silent Brass is a super handy accessory that's more than worth the investment. There's another great feature in this system though in the form of an AUX-in which you can use to connect your MP3 player with an optional 3.5 mm jack cable. Now you can play along with your music and enjoy it all in privacy with your headphones. The cherry on top is the ability to adjust the reverb, which in turn affects the entire ambiance of your music.

Tips or comments about this product
  • Please note: a cable for connecting external audio sources to the AUX-in is not typically included.
  • This pickup mute does not fit the following instruments: piccolo trumpet, alto/tenor horn, baritone, alto trombone, bass trombone or special fanfare models.
