DW Drums Performance Pewter Sparkle 22 4-Piece Shell Set

Part of the high-end Performance Series, this DW Drums four-piece boasts stunningly detailed design, from the signature lugs to the outstanding sonic character of the North African maple shells. This set has been compiled for jobbing professionals in need of a core kit that can be built on. This edition comes in Pewter Sparkle and, besides four drum shells, includes a pair of tom mounts.

The DW Drums Performance 4-Piece Shell Set

The adaptable four-piece configuration is made up of a 22 inch by 18 inch kick drum, a 10 inch by 8 inch and 12 inch and 9 inch hanging tom and a 16 inch by 14 inch floor tom. Since the toms have been removed from the bass drum and fitted with a stand-mounted hanging system, all three shells are able to resonate freely, while the floor tom is supported by a set of three solid and non-shifting legs.

Performance-Grade Construction

The shells are made from carefully selected, slow-growing North African maple. Since this particular species has a much slower growth rate than species like Japanese maple, the wood density is much higher, and since high density wood results increased resonance, you're getting much richer sound. These shells have an 8-ply build, where each ply isn't simply stacked on top of the other but, for the best possible results, the shape and direction of the wood grain has been considered from ply to ply. This very specific approach is also known as an HVX construction, which is illustrated in the second image included above. To make sure that none of the quality of sound is lost, these shells have then been finished with rounded, 45° bearing edges and fitted with a thick set of triple-flanged tension hoops and TruePitch tension rods to guarantee a wide and stable tuning range.
