Celebrating 20 years of collaboration, the Ibanez and John Scofield designed Japanese JSM20TH thinline semi-acoustic bears all of the best bits of their long-standing partnership plus some sweet and surprising tweaks. It might go without saying that every bit of the body has been hewn from maple, but it's certainly worth mentioning that the set-in neck has been shaped from African mahogany and comes topped with a dark and luxurious ebony fretboard. The 22 frets lend the playability the lighter feel of a jumbo format, and every edge has been smoothed and finished using the high-grade Prestige Fret-Edge treatment. This labour of love comes complete with a hard-wearing and form-fitting hardshell case.
The Ibanez JSM20TH: Boosted Comfort, Sound & Stability
Another nice little surprise is the light vintage-inspired compound radius of the fretboard, that starts at a nice and round 7.24 inches at the headstock and ends as a relatively flat 9.84 inches at the body, accommodating a tight grip on chords lower down and smooth string bends higher up. A pair of JSM Special humbuckers have been planted at the neck and bridge which, together with the set of four supple pots and three-way switch, unleash an immense tonal spectrum, all framed by transparent and richly dynamic warmth. Every bit of hardware has been provided by Gotoh, so you're absolutely assured of solid intonation and tuning, while the bone and brass nut lend balance and meaty presence to the foundation sound.
