General

The Ibanez AR520HFM semi-acoustic comes wrapped in luxurious detailing and classic style. The light and airy tone of this thinline archtop is amplified by a pair of vintage-style Super 58 humbuckers, so you get the some kind of double-coil output that you would get with an antique, Japanese Ibanez from way back when. But since this is definitely a modern guitar, each pickup comes backed up by Tri-Sound electronics, so you get three more sound profiles than you would get with just any normal hollow-body fitted with a standard three-way switch. Besides the immense tonal flexibility of this refined model, it has an incredibly snug and comfortable feel. The seamless neck-to-body heel connection grants a super-smooth transition up to the 22nd fret, while the body has been coated in classic black; bound in striking and delicate purfling; and loaded with a gold-plated Quick-Change Classic tailpiece, just to complete the sumptuous picture.

Wrote the following about Ibanez AR520H Black Semi-Acoustic Guitar

Super blij met deze gitaar.

Allereerst is het goed ingepakt door Ibanez. Gitaar is direct uit doos goed speelbaar na beetje stemmen. De intonatie en snaarhoogtes staan al goed afgesteld.

Afwerking van lak en fretboard is mooi, heb geen slordigheid kunnen vinden.

Het geluid is goed gebalanceerd tussen de elementen. Je kunt er met de tri-tone schakelaren bijna alle geluiden uithalen. Ook de toneschakelaar is goed bruikbaar, ben daar zelf van verbaasd. En de sustain is geweldig. Door de semi hollow geeft het een warme feel. En je kunt ook lekker feedback mee creëren die nog goed onder controle blijft. Classic rock and bluesy is deze zeker.

De hals is netjes afgewerkt en speelt lekker. Het is een stevige nek, maar ook niet te dik. Je hebt 22 frets, daar kan ik met mijn vingers net bij. Op de hoogste positie lukt het mij dan niet meer om een toonladder te spelen. Zelf ben ik de wizard neck van Ibanez met 24 frets gewend waar dat wel lukt, dat is uiteraard wel een ander type gitaar.

Als je deze gitaar met een strap speelt hangt hij wel meer aan de hals kant. Zelf ben ik gewend (verwend) aan de goede balans van een Ibanez RG, dus dit valt wel op.

Gitaar blijft goed in stemming. Heb met wat stevige bends de hoge snaren getest. Moest slechts af en toe een klein tikje bijdraaien, dat kan ook door de nieuwe snaren komen.

De snaren die opzitten zijn standaard. Het zijn degene die bij mij na het spelen vieze vingertoppen geven. Die ga ik gauw vervangen door mijn favoriete snaren D'daddario NYXL waar ik daar geen last van heb. Ik verwacht dat deze gitaar dan nog beter gaat klinken.

Zoek je een mooi gitaar met veelzijdig geluid, dan is deze gitaar een leuke. Hoe hij eruitziet klinkt die ook.
