General

Gretsch is celebrating 135 years of its existence by introducing a number of special models from its rich history. That includes this luxurious edition of its popular semi-acoustic G5420 from the Electromatic series. There will only be 300 of the G5420TG Electromatic Ltd Ed 135th models available throughout Europe, the Middle East and Africa, so you'll have to act quickly if you want one. It has gold-plated hardware and a beautiful 2-Tone finish with the top and 'Plain Face' headstock both having a lovely Deep Cherry Metallic lacquer, while the back and sides are finished in Casino Gold.

G5420TG Electromatic Ltd Ed 135th: features

The body and neck of this limited edition hollow-body model are both made of maple, while the fretboard is made of dark ebony and home to 22 medium jumbo frets and thumbnail position markers. Other notable features include the NuBone string nut by Graph Tech, a familiar 24.6-inch scale length and a comfortable 12-inch fretboard radius. There's also a Bigsby B60G vibrato tailpiece that allows you to easily add subtle tremolo effects to your playing.

Black Top Filter'Tron and treble-bleed master volume

The G5420TG is equipped with two Filter'Tron humbucker pickups that are responsible for delivering that great Gretsch sound to your amp. These Black Top humbuckers offer a stable sound without any undesirable noise and add a touch of sparkle too. You can customise your tone by means of the four potentiometers and 3-way pickup switch you have at your disposal. Each pickup has its own volume control but there's also a master volume control with a treble-bleed circuit and a master tone potentiometer as well. That gives you a broad sound palette to work with making this Electromatic model versatile enough for a variety of music styles including rock, rockabilly and country.

Friday 29 January 2016

Gretsch fans can roughly be divided into two groups. On the one hand you have the purists who think the specifications from the 1950s and 1960s - the Gretsch heydays - are beyond dispute. On the other hand, you have the more practically minded guitarists who like to make modifications to their instruments. Luckily, both camps are being catered to with Gretsch's new series: the Vintage Select Editions and the Players Editions.
