General

Tokai may be best-known for their affordable high-quality guitars, but this budget-friendly bass has a lot to offer too. Take this AJB-44 in Yellow Sunburst is clearly inspired by the American J-bass. It boasts the same clear and powerful mids and trebles that are characteristic of this type of bass guitar.

Construction

The combination of an asymmetrical alder wood body and maple neck have formed a solid foundation ever since the introduction of the J-bass. The comfortable narrow neck is equipped with a 20-fret rosewood fretboard, ensuring a slightly warmer sound than if it were made of maple, and rugged open machine heads and a vintage-style tremolo bridge enhance tuning stability. After years of studying the pickups on models by their American counterparts, Tokai developed two excellent JBC-F pickups that provide that authentic deep, yet bright J-bass sound.

The Tokai brand

In the 1970s, the Japanese brand Tokai did something ground-breaking by copying classic American models that were practically as good as the originals and offering them at a significantly cheaper price. Tokai may have risen out of the budget segment since then, but this particular AJB-44, which was manufactured in China, shows they still have the ability to offer high-quality instruments at a low price. Tokai offers you a lot of bass for your buck!

Tokai AJB-44 Yellow Sunburst electric bass guitar
Wrote the following about Tokai AJB-44 Yellow Sunburst electric bass guitar
