General

The future-ready second generation Sire Marcus Miller V3 has not only been technically streamlined but the price has been shaved down as well. This refreshed version differs from its forerunner on three points: the mahogany body is now mounted with Marcus Standard J-Revolution pickups for a bright and transparent P-bass style sound; the edges of the rosewood fretboard have been considerately rounded off to improve playing comfort, and the battery compartment cover is made of ash. Sire have evidently been busy dotting all the 'i's when developing this V3.

The Marcus Miller V3-4: Comprehensive Tone Controls

This bass comes fitted with an 18V Marcus Heritage-3 preamplifier that guarantees powerful amplification of the pure, natural sound of this V3. Active mode can be switched off for a passive bass sound and besides the 3-band EQ, you get an extensive midrange control that can be toggled from 80Hz to 2kHz for a fully customisable sound. Meanwhile, the steel Marcus Standard Bass Bridge, stable open gear machine heads and bone string nut complete the tonal balance while keeping tuning in check.

Wrote the following about Sire Marcus Miller V3-4 2nd Generation Natural Mahogany

In een zin: Dé beste beginners basgitaar als je meteen voor longscale wilt gaan. Jammer dat veel mensen dit merk beschouwen als een budget gitaar.

Of je nu pop of punk wilt spelen, funk of metal, je kan er veel sound uithalen voor je geld. Daarnaast is de neck zo smooth als boter, is hij lekker licht qua gewicht, en heeft weinig neiging om te neckdiven. De voorversterker is misschien iets te spontaan voor sommige muzikanten (veel power :-]....), maar met 7 knoppen om je sound te bewerken moet dat wel goedkomen!

Wel mogen ze in Goes hem de volgende keer afstellen als ze dat ook beloven aan de balie. Als je helemaal uit Brabant komt voor het laatste exemplaar, mag je toch op z'n minst verwachten dat hij zonder fret buzzing naar huis kan. Verders prima service en vrolijk personeel!

Kort gezegd: Wauw!

Van de perfecte lijnen van de mahonie body tot aan de vetste sounds die je met deze actieve bas uit je versterker kunt blazen, aan alles is te merken dat Sire zich met de Marcus Miller serie aan hoge standaarden stelt. Heel makkelijk spelende basgitaar met een afgerond fretboard voor hoog speel-comfort, een set controls waarmee je (nadat je onthouden hebt wat elk knopje doet) dit beestje van P naar J-bass kunt laten sliden in een handomdraai.

Wij hebben de bas nu iets meer dan een halfjaar, en ondanks de corona-situatie en het niet wonen met een echte bassist, heeft onze Sire al genoeg actie gezien. Ik (toetsenist) vind het heerlijk om de bas erbij te pakken als alternatief voor een gitaar (op gitaar, op gitaar, ... je kent het).

To wrap up: Zoek je gewoon een hele goede basgitaar, voor een niet-belachelijk bedrag? This is it! Voor mij persoonlijk onverslagen door producten van Fender/Squier of bijvoorbeeld Cort in deze prijsklasse.
