General

Originally, the Patchwork bass was made by Sandberg to show off the different types of wood, finishes, inlays and hardware colours that could be chosen for your newly hand-built guitar. The result looked so impressive that you can now buy this model and impress others whether playing it on the stage or showing it off as part of your collection. What's more, the seals between the various precision-cut pieces of wood are so tight that they're virtually invisible. If that's not proof enough of Sandberg's expert craftsmanship, nothing will be! Although the image shows the 5-string version of this instrument, it's the Basic Ken Taylor Patchwork 4-string version we're selling here. It comes complete with a robust gig bag.

Sandberg Basic Ken Taylor 4 Patchwork: a bit of everything

The front and back of the body, as well as the fretboard and the headstock are all made of various types of exotic woods, including ash, flamed maple and wenge. The wood types have been assembled in diagonal stripes and feature a range of finishes in different colours, some of which are aged. Black and white block inlays as well as position markers can be found on the fretboard. Even the smallest details have been considered by Sandberg when creating the Patchwork bass. The hardware fitted also comes in different colours, for instance. Everything from the machine heads to the bridge saddles to the knobs come in gold, black, chrome and aged chrome. The two powerhumbuckers also have covers in different colours. Needless to say, this is one instrument that's going to stand out from all the others!

Innovative Sandberg hardware

The Sandberg Basic Ken Taylor 4 Patchwork bass is fitted with a specially designed bridge with bridge saddles that can be adjusted in three different directions. This means that you can accurately set the intonation, string height and distance between the strings to your liking. The saddles are lockable to prevent rattles and give the bass a noticeably tighter and more direct sound. This model also features a zero fret which is characteristic on basses from Sandberg. It helps the open strings to sound more strings that are fretted. Finally, the Sandberg Basic KT 4 Patchwork is fitted with solid self-lubricating machine heads for easier tuning and greater tuning stability.
