General

While you wouldn't say so looking at its specifications, the Ibanez SR1340 is actually within affordable reach. As part of the first-rate Premium Series, this electric bass is skilfully crafted with superior parts and gives more expensive models a solid run for their money. The body is made of African mahogany and topped with panga-panga and, together with the panga-panga/purpleheart Atlas-4 neck, shapes a warm, rich sound backed by the brightness and presence needed to be heard loud and clear. It's this and two Big Single pickups from the eminent Nordstrand that assure you of natural sound that'll effortlessly find its way to your speakers, and can be tweaked to impress even more using the superbly versatile active tone controls which, by the way, can be turned off at will. Also, to inspire you to play virtuoso bass lines, all 24 medium frets have been given the special Premium Fret Edge Treatment, finishing an instrument that's obviously been built to satisfy even the most discerning bassists.
