General

When it was first unveiled at the 1956 edition of Musikmesse in Frankfurt, Walter Höfner couldn't have imagined the legend that he'd just unleashed. Based on the original electric semi-hollow-bodied bass seen in the hands of a young Sir Paul McCartney in the early sixties, this is the limited edition Violin Bass 61 Cavern. The name says it all: this hand-numbered reissue of one of the most recognisable instruments on the planet bears all of the same features as its sixty-year old ancestor - from the pickup configuration to the neck profile.

The Violin Bass 61 Cavern: Pure Mersey Beat Bass

Taking things back to the sound of 1961, a Diamond pickup has been mounted at both the neck and middle positions and has been coupled up with a classic set of pots and switches to shape the unmistakable roundness and warmth that backed up the Mersey Beat. The set-in flamed maple neck has a stable three-piece construction and has an immediately agile and familiar feel in the fret-hand. The unchanged headstock has been finished with a vintage Höfner logo and fitted with a set of Rugby Ball Single open-gear machine heads, while the ebony Fretted Bridge and Trapeze tailpiece complete the picture. The Höfner 60th Anniversary Edition 61 Cavern comes with a generous bag of treats: a form-fitting hardshell case, a certificate of authenticity, a vintage strap, a polishing cloth, a Höfner tote bag, and a sweet stack of stickers and booklets that commemorate both the legend of the Cavern Club in Liverpool and the illustrious history of the Höfner Violin Bass.
