General
As it is made in Indonesia, this G&L Tribute is much cheaper than its American brothers. However, it still features exactly the same pickups, exactly the same electronics and exactly the same hardware. Its basswood body brandishes a sleek high-gloss black finish and supports two quiet Magnetic Field Design humbucker pickups as well as a G&L Saddle Lock bridge and Tri-tone circuit. This is a versatile bass guitar, even for demanding bass players!
Tribute L-2000: full control over the sound
The L-2000's Tri-tone circuit consists of three potentiometers for volume, treble and bass. A three-position mini switch engages either one of the two humbuckers or both of them simultaneously. Another three-way mini switch lets you alternate between a passive and an active mode or an active mode with treble boost. Lastly, there's a two-way mini switch that lets you use the pickups parallel or in series. The Tribute L-2000 offers you numerous possibilities to create your own sound.
G&L innovations for an optimal sound
The L-2000's Saddle Lock bridge is designed to transfer the vibrations of the strings to the body in the best way possible. A small screw on the side of the bridge presses the saddles together, making them tremble as one with the bridge, resulting in extra resonance and sustain. What's more, the humbuckers have magnets that are adjustable in height, allowing you to optimally adjust the output per string and thus the overall balance.

De prijzen van G & L liggen in het algemeen wat lager dan de originele Fenders van Oom Leo en toch doen ze kwalitatief totaal niet onder .
G & L en zeker de USA hebben goede reputatie en kostbaar , maar de mijne was gewoon in Indonesie geproduceerd.
Wat mij nog bijstaat , ik bespeelde hem 1 jaar, is het prettig gewicht, niet te zwaar , goede balans en algehele afwerking, de nek was prima afgesteld, frets netjes aangebracht en met name de brug vond ik gezien de aanschafprijs wel heel bijzonder.
De toon was namelijk erg strak en gedefinieerd. Het geluid vond ik niet bepaald " Fenderish" maar meer Hifi achtig, modern, tot haast ....kil.
Geen warme Fender mojo maar een kristalhelder basgeluid en tsja....geen vintage sound maar echt helder, metalig soms.
Een oerwoud aan knopjes en schakelaars om lekker mee te spelen en te proberen . Maar om nou te zeggen dat er 1000 mogelijkheden waren, dat viel reuze mee. Een slapswitch is wel aardig en actief/passief schakelaar idem dito. Maar een gewone Fender had evenveel mogelijkheden qua onderscheidende klankkleuren.
Misschien dat deze bas meer bedoeld was voor een all round studio bassist die op maandag Hilbilly spelt en op dinsdag heavy metal ?
In ieder geval ik vond het wat tegenvallen qua klankkleuren, soms hoorde ik zelfs met aan het aanklikken en gedraai helemaal geen verschil.
Wat wel telt is die superstrakke toon , heel gedefinieerd en dat is ook wel wat waard ! Voorts was het uitgangssignaal wel erg gespierd en luid....zeg maar hard ! Opletten als je op de versterker aan sluit en de mastervolume wat naar beneden.
Wat mij nog wat stoorde (enigszins) was dat de snaren (van de fabriek) was strak aanvoelden. Ik had moeite om op deze bas te slappen, zo strak gespannen, niet echt prettig.
Tenslotte vond ik de pick ups niet lekker genoeg om je duim daar op te plaatsen .
Maar het is voor het geld zeker een professioneel niveau basgitaar , zeg maar basis werkpaard.
Indrukkendwekkend uitziend electronica maar toch....te weinig warmte en mojo (vintage) geluid.
Het geluid in het algemeen vond ik soms gelijkend op de sound van Herman Deinum, niet zo mijn ding.
ik zou hem op 3,5 ster willen zetten indien mogelijk.
Voor de blues en country bassisten die wat warmers zoeken binnen G & L zou ik meer denken aan
de G & L JB 2 series (dus passief). Die schijnen ook worldwide populairder te zijn.
