General

Fender's American Vintage series is bound to make passionate guitarists and bass guitar players feel like kids in a candy shop. Numerous long-lost models are carefully examined by the American brand and not a single detail is omitted when they're subsequently re-made. The Fender American Vintage '74 Jazz Bass is the perfect example of Fender's attention to detail. This particular model has a 3-colour Sunburst finish that makes it look very sleek, especially in combination with the black pickguard (a new feature in 1974) and the pearloid inlays on the fretboard.

Fender American Vintage '74 Jazz Bass: time capsule

Fender have really taken it to the next level. To achieve the most accurate copy of the 1974 Jazz Bass, even the tools and materials of the period were re-designed or dusted down, making this Jazz Bass look and sound incredibly authentic. The vintage sound is produced by two pickups that were specially designed for this American Vintage model and voiced to provide you with the beloved punch and the harmonic Jazz Bass character of old. This American Vintage '74 Jazz Bass truly is a prized possession.

Build and components

1974 was quite the year for the Jazz Bass, as its C-shaped neck was replaced by one with a U profile. What's more, the new neck was thicker to provide for a different, better playing feel. Maple was combined with a rosewood fretboard with relatively low and narrow vintage-style frets. The body features two volume knobs (for each of the single-coils) and a tone control on a chrome-plated cover. The properly sized bridge cover (with Fender F) and an arm rest above the middle pickup both have a chrome finish. Even a thumb rest is present. All of these features make that the American Vintage '74 Jazz Bass is fully equipped to take you back to the seventies, all in renowned Fender quality.
