General

The Fender Jazz Bass was already a huge success at its introduction in 1960. Its slender, asymmetrical body, comfortably narrow maple neck and versatile, rich and roaring tone it quickly made it a must have for every bass guitar player. The American Standard Jazz Bass Fretless is a modern interpretation of this genuine classic. It features the same vintage-styling, equipped with modern-day modifications. This fretless version comes with an accessory SKB case, a guitar cable, guitar strap and a polishing cloth.

American Standard Jazz Bass: the best of both worlds

This J-Bass is an excellent combination of classic features and modern innovations. For instance, it features an extra-massive vintage-style bridge for more tone and sustain as well as four hipshot machine heads that have a vintage look yet weigh 30% less. This edition of the American Standard Jazz Bass was fitted with Fender Custom Shop '60s alnico 5 single-coil pickups that produce the original '60s sound with just a little more output for extra punch, mids and bass. Additionally, its neck features a richer, deeper tint and its body has a thinner coat of paint so that the wood can breathe and resonate better.

Features of a fretless bass guitar

As its name implies, the Fender American Standard Jazz Bass Fretless has no frets. This may not seem like a major modification, but it drastically influences the sound. The sound of fretless bass guitars is often described as mellow, sultry, warm and melodious. Also, the playability is completely different and requires some practice, but once you're used to it, you'll effortlessly slide from one note to the next, like you would on a double bass. It'll come as no surprise, then, that you often hear these bass guitars in jazz, funk and R&B music.
