General

D'Angelico's EX-Bass is the brand's very first archtop bass guitar, making it a unique instrument indeed. This model was never built by John D'Angelico himself, so it's not an exact replica of an existing model. Instead, D'Angelico's guitars were used as inspiration for the design of this bass. Its hollow body is lightweight and it can deliver a deep, dark tone. With two humbuckers at your disposal, you can extract a wide variety of sounds from this instrument.

Vintage sound

With only the neck pickup engaged, the D'Angelico Ex-Bass produces a fat, warm sound straight from the sixties. Thanks to the two humbuckers in the bridge, however, it's also capable of a more direct, brighter sound with a feisty edge. When both pickups are activated, you get the fat sound of a hollow-body bass with enough clarity and definition with the addition of the pickup at the bridge.

The brand D'Angelico

D'Angelico is a legendary name in the world of guitars. At the tender age of 9, founder John D'Angelico, began working in his great uncle's luthier shop where they built high-quality violins and mandolins. He applied the knowledge gained from building these instruments to the development of his own line of D'Angelico guitars and opened his first shop in Little Italy, New York, in 1932. After John D'Angelico passed away, his apprentice James D'Aquisto took over the company. To this very day, these two luthiers are considered to be the very best archtop guitar-builders of all time.
Now, you can own your very own genuine D'Angelico! The legendary brand offers an entire range of guitars that have been built according to the exact specifications of John D'Angelico himself, with the exception of special editions like the Ex-Bass.
