Strymon Big Sky Midnight Edition Multi-Reverb Pedal
Product no: 9000-0085-2462 Bax Music Warranty: This product comes with a 3-year warranty.

General

This is without doubt the most extensive, impressive, and acclaimed reverb pedal in the known universe: the Strymon Big Sky Multi Reverb. While you could, of course, seek out a stack of analogue alternatives, the fact is that this digital pedal neatly arranges precisely modelled versions of every reverb you can think of, analogue or otherwise. And since we're talking Strymon, we're talking surgical precision. This stompbox is the result of years of in-depth research followed by the detailed and exact mathematical reproduction of every element of every emulated pedal. Besides familiar classics, the Big Sky is also home to modern, 'impossible' reverbs, which is exactly why this pedal is the holy grail for all self-respecting reverb-devotees.

Twelve Reverbs

The twelve studio-quality reverbs housed by the Big Sky come backed up by stereo inputs and outputs and cabinet simulation. And on the face of it, you get a hall, plate, spring, swell, bloom, cloud, chorale, shimmer, magneto, nonlinear, reflections and room reverb. Dive deeper and you get to swing from sweet and mechanical, sixties-style spring reverb, to bizarrely brilliant, yet indescribable reverb like the Magneto. All of it can be tamed or unleashed via the smart set of controls, and two parameter buttons can be assigned before the profile is saved to the provided bank of 300 presets. All of this is performed seamlessly and without a hint of latency thanks to the absurdly powerful SHARC processor.

Some Practical Extras

Some welcome practical extras include the Spillover mode, which ensures a smooth transition between the sound of the current preset and the next, and Reverb Persist mode which either caps or allows the decay to die out after the bypass switch is hit. Infinite Sustain does exactly what you'd expect, allowing users to stack endless reverb, while the Freeze function can be used to play over a sustained and held reverb signal. This stompbox can also be MIDI controlled by hooking up a MIDI to USB cable (not included) to adjust presets or back them up via a PC or Mac. In short, the Strymon Big Sky is the undisputed master of reverb, and comes complete with a 9V power supply.

Wednesday 20 January 2016 By Lizanne
