General

With the Yamaha SB2-9 Silent Brass system for your euphonium or baritone you can practise without bothering your neighbours or housemates.

The system consists of a mute stop for your brass instrument and a separate box with a stereo headphone connection. Additionally, it also has an audio output for directly recording to your computer and an audio input for a CD or MP3 player so you can play along with your favourite music. The sound is digitally improved so you can adjust the acoustics to imitate those of a concert hall, for example.

Wrote the following about Yamaha SB29 Silent Brass system for euphonium and baritone

In het begin was ik een beetje sceptisch over de aanschaf van de silent brass. Uiteindelijk heb ik toch besloten om het aan te schaffen en te proberen. De silent brass werd de volgende dag direct geleverd dus ik kon direct aan de slag. Om eerlijk te zijn dacht ik in het begin dat het 3x niks was, totdat ik een beetje met het volume en de instellingen ging spelen. Ineens hoorde ik mezef super helder en speelde het super goed. Het enige wat mij op valt is dat in het lage register er iets meer weerstand is, maar misschien is dit juist goed. Zelf speel ik inmiddels 13 jaar euphonium en sinds kort woon ik op kamers. Het werd door de buren niet gewaardeerd als ik ging studeren, dus dit is de perfecte oplossing.
Waar ik door collega muzikanten wel voor gewaarschuwd ben, is dat je niet puur alleen met de silent brass moet oefenen. Dit is niet goed voor de toon. Zie het dus niet als een vervangend product waar je altijd non stop op kunt oefenen. Het is super goed om embouchure op te bouwen, en moeilijke loopjes in de vingers te krijgen.

Ondanks de forse investering is het voor mij zeker de moeite waard geweest en raadt het dan ook iedereen aan.
