Sony MDR-7520: all you need for outstanding sound

These Sony studio headphones were designed with a single purpose in mind: studio and broadcasting applications. The reliable MDR-7520s boast a frequency response of 5 Hz to 80 kHz, and can handle power up to 4,000 mW. For high-quality signal transmissions, their cable is fitted with a gold-plated connector. The headphones' 50mm drivers are equipped with an LCP (liquid crystal polymer) diaphragm, ensuring optimal clarity and a precise listening experience.

Comfort

To make the MDR-7520 studio headphones as comfortable as possible, they were fitted with special soft ear pads that adjust themselves to the shape of your ears, and provide excellent sound isolation to boot. Their headband was made from a special lightweight magnesium alloy, allowing for hours of pleasant listening without any discomfort. The Sony studio headphones come with a 3-metre detachable cable and a 3.5mm/6.3mm plug adapter.

Ik heb door mijn werk (en hobby) inmiddels een hele hoop hoofdtelefoons en headsets mogen bezitten en mogen testen, maar deze doet nu eens eindelijk wat een goede studio referentiehoofdtelefoon moet doen: het geluid weergeven zoals het is. Gebalanceerd, nergens vervormd of overdreven en prima afgesloten van de buitenwereld.

Natuurlijk, ik heb ook een Ultrasone PRO 900 die nog veel meer laat horen -vooral in het hoogmidden en hoog- maar dat is een weergave zoals anderen hem waarschijnlijk nooit zullen horen. En uiteindelijk produceren wij films en documentaires die simpelweg op TV-toestellen en huiskamer-audio-installaties worden afgespeeld. Of bij grootbeeldprojectie op een (non-hifi) PA-systeem. Dan hou je jezelf voor de gek bij een 'te mooie' afluistering.

Wij hebben voor onze locatieopnames al een tijdje de Sennheiser HD25C-II en Sony MDR-7506 in gebruik. Deze hoofdtelefoon in de studio past daar prima bij. ten opzichte van de 7506 heeft de 7520 grotere oorschelpen, zit daardoor comfortabeler en sluit beter af.

...En voor het 'shiny design' (wat deze SONY 7520 absoluut niet heeft :-)) hebben we een Pioneer HDJ-2000. Dat is tevens onze gasten-hoofdtelefoon. Voordeel: die klinkt nog wat meer 'real world'.

Sony Goes Supersonic with the C-100 Hi-Res Microphone!
