General
Voortbouwend op de reputatie van de SP303 sampler, draait het bij de SP404vooral om meer: meer functies, meer polyfonie, meer pads en meer geheugen. De slanke zilverkleurige behuizing van de SP404 is nieuw voor de SP-reeks.
In tegenstelling tot zijn voorganger werkt hij ook op batterijen en beschikt hij over een CompactFlash-slot en een ingebouwde microfoon. Vanaf nu verlopen je samplesessies vlot en zonder gedoe: gewoon aanzetten, richten en opnemen je hoeft helemaal niks aan te sluiten. Nu kan je beginnen met de kern van de zaak: beats en patterns maken, die je verder aandikt met de schitterende effecten. Zelfs met al dat fraais is de SP-404 nog steeds zeer betaalbaar.
De naam Roland is synoniem met schitterende klank en dat is bij de SP404 niet anders. De sample- en weergavekwaliteit van dit bovendien budgetvriendelijke instrument is kristalhelder, zoals een CD. Je kan audio rechtstreeks opnemen met de SP- 404, of importeren/exporteren via CompactFlash-kaartjes in de standaard WAV- of AIF-formaten. Als je vooraf opgenomen audio wil samplen, sluit dan gewoon je CD-speler of een andere audiobron aan op de line input jacks (L, R) van de SP404 en ga je gang. Voor de weergave beschikt de SP-404 over line outputs (L, R) en een hoofdtelefoonaansluiting. Voor externe aansturing van de SP404 is er een MIDI IN connector voorzien. De SP-404 is uitgerust met een standaard CompactFlashsleuf die kaarten tot 1GB aanvaardt.
